Resilience
A process of responding to life’s challenges, both individually and collectively.
Resilience looks different for each person, shaped by who they are, the circumstances they face, and the environments around them.
It is also the focus of my current research project.
Through my research, I’ve come to understand resilience as a process of bouncing forward. This involves facing challenges, finding stability and balance, learning, and growing.
Bouncing forward is not always easy.
Sometimes, after facing challenges, we come out stronger. Other times, life’s struggles can feel increasingly harder, and we may find ourselves in more difficult situations.
Resilience can be influenced, and its potential is complex. What helps in one moment of life may not be what supports you in the next.
Resilience is also not just about individual responsibility; it's also about how we collectively influence and support one another, and the environments we shape together.
While resilience isn't always easy, as it is always accompanied by hardships, it's about continuing to move forward, even when the path is unclear and the destination uncertain.
My current research project on resilience is ongoing and will continue until the end of 2025. I will gradually share more insights here about what I learn and what resilience might mean for you.
In the meantime, you can read more about the project through the link below.
Quick tips from the project on resilience so far:
- Acknowledge that resilience encompasses setbacks, resistance, and change; respect your own process in this.
- You can develop awareness of what works for you; this will be different for others.
- Emotions are part of the experience; sadness and happiness can coexist.
- Allow others to share their experiences without judgment; stay curious.
